With pipe-backed blade (some pitting) etched 'Viva O Imperador' beneath a crown and laurel branches on each side, heavy brass hilt with half-basket guard (originally gilt) involving an oval panel cast and chased with the crowned Brazilian arms in relief, monster-head pommel, shagreen-covered grip (shagreen defective), and original engraved brass scabbard
