Two Composite Broadswords
The first comprehensively German mid-16th Century, the second partly 18th Century
The first with broad bluntly-pointed double-edged blade stamped at the forte with sickle and serpent marks, iron half-basket guard of flat bars with straight triangular-ended quillons and an inner thumb-ring, truncated pyramidal pommel with traces of punched decoration, and later leather-covered wooden grip; the second with straight blade stamped with a spurious date and the monogram of Carlos IV of Spain (1788-1808), iron hilt with upturned fluted shell, vertically recurved quillons, reeded pommel, and wire-bound grip
