A German Sporting Crossbow
Early 18th Century
Probably made for a child, with slender steel bow with original string and retaining cords, flat-sided tiller inlaid with engraved white staghorn panels, and roundels engraved with birds, flowerheads and ball-flowers, later sliding patch-box cover (loose) covered with engraved white staghorn, wooden butt-plate (chipped), iron loop, trigger-guard and nut, and set trigger (some inlay later, sights missing, bolt-clip probably an old replacement)
