An Unusual 18-Bore French Percussion Sporting Gun

Fitted with a fine late 17th century Turkish barrel of etched twist, in three stages with encrusted gold decoration at the muzzle and breech, the former cut with spiral flutes outlined with silver-encrusted dots and with a raised chiselled moulding against a gilt ground bearing a slotted fore-sight, the central section with three longitudinal raised ribs, gold-encrusted case-hardened patent breech with pierced platinum plug, scroll engraved case-hardened back-action lock signed in gold within a gold-inlaid double oval, case-hardened scroll engraved tang incorporating the back-sight, figured walnut three-quarter stock serial numbered and dated under the barrel, chequered grip and fore-end, case-hardened mounts finely engraved with scrolls, silver barrel-bolt escutcheons, original iron-tipped ramrod, and nearly all its original finish
