By Springfield Arms Co., dated 1851
With browned two-stage sighted barrel rifled with ten grooves, signed top-strap, cylinder etched with scrolling foliage and with recessed nipples, action engraved with a stand of American flags on each side, and stamped 'Warner's Patent Jan 1851' on the right side, walnut butt with cheek-piece, and iron mounts including scroll engraved spur trigger-guard (some wear overall, rammer replaced)
24¼in. (61.6cm.) barrel
James Warner built revolving rifles of this type in expectation of the expiration of Colonel Colt's Patent. However, Colt recieved an extension to his patent and Warner had to modify his arms to avoid a suit for patent infringement. Only about 100-200 of this pattern are thought to have been produced
