An Unusual Westley Richards Patent 'Monkey-Tail' Percussion Breech-Loading Rifle
Signed C & J Faure Brandt, No. 2005, dated 1867
With signed blued rifled barrel stamped 'Whitworth. Patent.' and retained by two iron bands, folding adjustable back-sight calibrated to 1000 yards, breech-lever stamped 'Westley Richards Patent', flat lock stamped 'Westley Richards & Co.' and dated within a triangle on the tail, figured walnut three-quarter stock (some bruising and minor damage), the butt painted with Chinese characters on one side, iron mounts, butt-trap, chequered trigger, sling mounts, original iron ramrod, and some original finish

The butt and breech are both stamped with a Chinese chrysanthemum mark, probably indicating that this rifle was used in Chinese trials
