A German Two-Hand Processional Sword
Early 17th Century
With waved blade struck with a mark and etched with a coat-of-arms under a bishop's hat on one face of the forte, the ricasso sandwiched between wooden scales and covered with leather (slight damage), and with two pointed side-lugs, the hilt lightly engraved with foliage and comprising slightly downcurved quillons widening towards the triangular tips, arms and large double ring-guard on each side, covered-cup shaped pommel (button replaced) and three-stage leather-covered wooden grip (slightly wormed) studded with nails
48in. (122cm.) blade
The arms are those of Marcus Sittich von Hohenems, Bishop of Salzburg from 1612 to 1617
