A State Partizan Of The Guard Of Johann Ernst, Count Thun, Prince Archbishop Of Salzburg (Ruled 1687-1709)
Late 17th Century
With stout broad fluted double-edged blade with crescent-shaped wings at the base, and tapering octagonal socket surmounted by a globose moulding, the base of the blade and both flukes etched on each side with stylised foliage on a blackened coarsely dotted ground, in the centre of both sides an etched cartouche containing the arms of Count Thun with those of the see of Salzburg in chief, surmounted by a cardinal's hat and cords with six tassels, the socket and moulding also etched, two plain straps, and original octagonal staff
