Lot Essay

Lucy Peacock was a bookseller and author, who kept a shop in Oxford Street. She wrote tales for children, for the most part anonymously. The long list of subscribers includes the name of Princess Mary, to whom the work was dedicated. Amongst the Prize Productions appear several works by Leigh Hunt. On p. 281 appears the following Editor's note: "Master H. L. Hunt, whose information is extensive, and his genius luxuriant; to become a good writer, only wants a little attention to arrangement, and to study 'the art of arts, the art to blot.'"
