A Cambodian ivory and shell chess set, 19th century
one side distinguished by green painted highlights, the kings and bishops of inverted baluster form, with stepped conical finials, the queens and rooks of squat bulbous form, with conforming finials, the knights modelled as horses' heads, the pawns as actual sea shells, king -- 2 1/8in. (5.4cm) high, pawn -- 3/8in. (9mm) high
