in red-stained and natural hues, all on baluster stems, the royal pieces with crowned carved heads, above petalled and pierced galleries, bishops with serrated disc knops, knights with horses' heads, rooks s turrets with crescent finials, pawns with acorn-shaped finials, king -- 11½in. (4.5cm) high, pawn -- 1 7/8in. (4.8cm) high
