on a revolutionary theme, one side in red, green and yellow hues the other in blue and black, the royal figures crowned, heightened in gilt, the peasant king smoking a pipe, the other king with orb and sceptre, the bisops as drummers and infantrymen, the knights as standing figures flanking horses, the rooks as sentrys at sentry boxes and figures surmounting turrets, pawns as bishops with croziers and figures of maids, with plaited hair, the pieces inscribed with maker's mark HEREND, and numbers, and the crowned shield mark, king -- 3¼in. (8.3cm) high, pawn -- 3in. (7.6cm) high
