A RARE COMPLETE SET OF TWENTY PALE CELADON JADE BELT PLAQUES
MING DYNASTY

Comprising six pear-shaped plaques--4.5cm. wide; four small rectangular plaques 2cm. wide; eight rectangular plaques in three sizes 5.8, 6.3 and 7cm. wide; and two rectangular plaques rounded at one end 10.7cm. wide, each carved with a four-clawed horned scaly dragon amid clouds, flames and auspicious emblems above cresting waves on a reticulated shuang xi ground, the thinnest rectangular plaques with only auspicious emblems, clouds and waves, all carved from stones well matched pale celadon tone, set in the original gilt silver mounts, one missing a backing, box (20)

Cf. a set of nineteen related dragon plaques in the Jiangxi Museum, illustrated in Zhongguo Meisho Quanju, vol. 9. no. 281. This was excavated in 1958 and date to the mid-Ming period
