A RARE PAIR OF YELLOW-GROUND IRON-RED-DECORATED BOWLS
QIANLONG SEAL MARKS AND OF THE PERIOD

Finely painted to the exterior in iron-red with five sinuous dragons, writhing amid clouds and flames above breaking waves, all on a rich lemon-yellow ground, the interiors plain (one restored)
4 3/4in. (12cm.) diam.

Lot Essay

Cf. a pair of Qianlong bowls of this pattern from the H. M. Knight Collection included in the Oosterse Schatten Exhibition, Rijksmuseum, 1954, Catalogue no. 419. Another bowl is in the Victoria and Albert Museum, illustrated by Kerr, Chinese Ceramics, Porcelain of the Qing Dynasty, pl. 27; and one other example is illustrated by Lang, The Powell-Cotton Collection of Chinese Ceramics, no. 96.
