Lot Essay

Compare with three Qianlong mark and period jars of this form, a yellow-glazed jar in the National Palace Museum, Taibei, illustrated by Liu Liang-yu in Ch'ing Official and Popular Wares, p. 201 and included in the Special Exhibition of Great National Treasures of China, Kaohsiung, Catalogue, 1994, p. 267, no. 50; an iron-red jar made for use at the Temple of the Sun, and a blue-glazed jar made for the Temple of the Moon, both illustrated by Rose Kerr, Chinese Ceramics, Porcelain of the Qing Dynasty 1644-1911, pls. 9 and 15 respectively.
