Lot Essay

The carvings produced by Lu Zigang in the late Ming period were regarded as of the highest quality through the Qing dynasty and many later carvings bear his name. A similar 'mutton fat' white jade plaque carved with a different subject but also signed Zigang is illustrated in the exhibition Catalogue, Chinese Jades from the Mu-Fei Collection, no. 69
