One with a celadon jade shaft carved in low-relief with a dense floral meander and medallions, the brush-socket more deeply carved with a floral scroll; the other with a spinach-green shaft and brush-socket, a single incised line below the rim

Lot Essay

Writing brushes carved from jade were presumibly quite opulant in the Qing dynasty. Several other examples of jade brush handles were included in the Min Chiu Society exhibition of Chinese Jade Carvings and illustrated in the Catalogue, 1983, no. 267-269.
