MING DYNASTY

Carved to the mid-section with a wide band of 'C'-scrolls flanked by linear ruyi-shaped incisions below a key-fret band at the rim, the handle formed as a dragon-headed carp, the stone of creamy tone suffused with paler cloudy flecks and pale russet and dark amber inclusions, the base with a four-character inscription Yong Bao Chang Chun (small chip to handle)

Lot Essay

The form of this cup is comparatively rare, however the dragon-shaped handle may commonly be found in the Ming dynasty and the central band of scrolls can be found on diffent shaped vessels of the period including the vase illustrated by Rawson, Chinese Jade, no. 29.7
