Each with rounded sides, the interior enamelled in the centre with a bird perched on a descending peony branch watching a passing butterfly, the sun behind a cloud beyond, the well coral-glazed and decorated with gilt emblems and lotus flowers, the reverse similarly decorated

Lot Essay

These dishes belong to a small group of wares which juxtapose iron-red with famille verte. Compare, for example, the bowl from the Tsui Museum of Art illustrated in the Catalogue, vol.4, fig.104. Compare also the dishes, idem., figs.99, 100, 101, 102. Another dish in the Victoria and Albert Museum is illustrated by Kerr, Chinese Art and Design, fig.92
