Two related European-subject bottles are illustrated by Robert W.L. Kleiner, Chinese Snuff Bottles from the Collection of Mary and George Bloch, col. pl. 2 & 5, where the author states that "the three eighteenth century Emperors were all fascinated by European culture and went to great lengths to have numerous Jesuit missionaries, who were attached to the court, teach local craftsmen the techinques of enameling. European subjects were favoured, particularly a series of prettily dressed young girls..."
Compare also to another bottle in the J & J Collection, illustrated by Moss, Graham and Tsang, The Art of The Chinese Snuff Bottle, no. 173. The authors note "An interesting distinctions between (Chinese and European subjects) lies in the manner in which they were painted. European subjects were invariably created with an illusionistic impression of three-dimensionality built up by careful shading or stippling. Chinese subjects were often outlined confidently in the more linear style of the Chinese Tradition of painting".
A near identical panel on a Beijing enamel ewer and cover depicting European lady wearing a yellow scarf holding a rose in a raised hand was included in the Special Exhibition in Kaohsiung City, Great National Treasures of China, loaned by the National Palace Museum to commemorate their Seventiethy Anniversary, Catalogue, 93
