Lot Essay

The only R. Dalton in The Dictionary of English Furniture Makers 1660-1840, Leeds, 1986, is the chairmaker Robert Dalton recorded in 1803, who subscribed to Thomas Sheraton's Cabinet Dictionary. It seems probable that R. Dalton is a relation of Thomas Dalton, a writing-desk and dressing-case maker, recorded in London between 1829 and 1839 (ibid, p. 225).
