The hinged rectangular top with later removable book-stop on a ratcheted support and concealing a further pierced book-support on ratcheted support, the moulded sides with a pair of brass candle-stands on a ratcheted telescopic support and ring-turned and acanthus-carved baluster column, the base carved with ribbon-tied laurel, on cabriole legs carved with acanthus and pad feet, on brass castors, restorations to easel mechanisms

Patterns from related 'Reading or Music Desks', were published in William Ince and John Mayhew's, The Universal System of Household Furniture, London, 1762 (pl. XXVI). A related 'desk' supplied in 1767 by Thomas Chippendale (d.1779) for Nostell Priory, Yorkshire is illustrated in J. Hardy, 'Sir Rowland Winn's Music desk', Furniture History, 1997, fig. 1.
