Lot Essay

Finnis and Co. were a firm of carvers, gilders and looking-glass manufacturers who occupied a number of addresses in Southwark from 1804 until after 1840 (C. Gilbert, Pictorial Dictionary of Marked London Furniture 1700-1840, Leeds, 1996, p. 28, 207-8 and figs. 352-4). It seems likely that this mirror was at some time restored by them.
