A CHINESE-EXPORT BLACK AND GOLD-LACQUER DRESSING-MIRROR
Late 18th Century
Decorated overall with foliage and lines, the oval plate in an oval frame with pierced oval and scrolling cresting, on curved supports, the serpentine base with two drawers, each with Chinese characters to the reverse, on shaped bracket feet, refreshments to the decoration
18¼ in. (46 cm.) wide; 28¼ in. (71.5 cm.) high; 11¼ in. (18.5 cm.) deep

Lot Essay

A similar husk-festooned medallion dressing-glass, bearing the 1830s trade label of Town and Emanuel of New Bond Street, was offered anonymously, Sotheby's New York, 27 January 1996, lot 177.
