Patterns for medallioned-back chairs, including one with hermed feet, were published in Messrs. A. Hepplewhite and Co.'s Cabinet-Maker and Upholsterer's Guide, 1788, pls. 14 and 16. Chair-makers such as Jakob Malmsten used Hepplewhite's patterns (see: S. Wallin, Nordiska Museets Möbler Fran Svenska Herremanshem, 1989, figs. 1102-1103).
