Enzo Osella founded his racing team in 1972 in Volpiano specializing in racing with Abarth sportscars. Two years later Osella built his first monoposto to compete in Formula 2 and in 1980 an Osella entered its first Formula 1 race. In 1979 the 21 year old American Eddie Cheever joined the F2-team having previously started his career with the Italians with a win in the rain at Silverstone. When Osella turned to F1-racing Cheever was the pilot, of course. The Osella FA1 ran with a Cosworth V8, started that year in 10 races but finished the season without points. In 1986 Osella had two cars in the field, driven by Ghinzani and Danner and powered by Alfa Romeo 890 V8 turbo engine.

This FA1H was reportedly used by Piero Ghinzani throughout the 1986 season. No points were scored, although the team came close to them several times.

The present owner acquired the car directly from Osella at the end of 1986, after it had been completely rebuilt. The turbocharger pressure was slightly reduced to give the engine a longer life and smoother power delivery. The car was never used and is in as new condition. If the purchaser intends to use it, we would however advise careful recommissioning.
