The tourbillon was supplied by James Pellaton (1873-1954) who, like his father Albert Pellaton-Fabre (1770-1849), was an eminent maker of tourbillons in the nineteenth century.
James Pellaton made the smallest tourbillon in 1923 which was only succeeded in size in circa 1950.
A similar tourbillon is illustrated in Le Tourbillon by Reinhard Meis, p. 163.
It appears that this watch was made for Monsieur Jean Dollfus in circa 1930 and has remained in the family since.
Monsieur Dollfus was a passionate collector of Breguet watches and did not shy back from special orders for him. Another watch from his original collection, an unique 18 carat white gold tonneau-shaped instantaneous perpetual calendar wristwatch with phases of the moon made by Breguet in circa 1929, was sold at Christie's Geneva on 17 November 1997 as lot 198.
