Maker's mark Anton Georg Eberhard Bahlsen, Hanover, circa 1840
Vase-shaped, on circular domed foot chased with acanthus foliage, the waisted stem with chased swirling foliage baluster knop, the lower part of the bowl with applied openwork calyx chased with roses, thistles and foliage, the upper part with applied medaillon within oak foliage wreath chased with presentation inscription: "ZUR ERINNERUNG AN DEN 2 TEN JANUAR 1790 AM 2 TEN JANUAR 1840" ("In memory of 2 January 1790, 2 January 1840") on matted ground and with ribbon with inscription "GESUNDHEIT, HEIL UND SEGEN!" ("Good health and prosperity"), the detachable domed cover with similar border and detachable fluted baluster finial rising from acanthus leaves and surmounted by a reclining stag, the cover engraved with initial M, marked on foot
