Oval box, the cover, sides and base engraved with landscapes with classical ruins, castles and ships, enamelled en basse-taille in translucent bleu royal, against a burnished gold ground all over engraved with a diaper pattern, the rims engraved with wavy reeded bands interlaced with leaves
53 mm. (2.1/8 in.) wide

Lot Essay

Jean-Louis La Cour was sponsored by the famous gold box maker Claude de Villers. He struck his mark in 1737 and was buried on 27 December 1768.
