This armchair is inspired by English early 18th Century models. Lorimer had a scrapbook with photographs of Queen Anne furniture for reference, as it was a period that had particular appeal for him. It is a cross between an open armchair and a corner chair. The carved scallop, foliage and husk on the central leg is a rare embellishment and contrasts with the plain faceted cabriole legs that flank it. He experimented much with the pad foot, in this instance they have been slightly flattened. The scrolls to the horizontal supports of the solid splat are a typical whimsy.
