Lot Essay

A typical plain design made of home grown oak (Lorimer favoured native woods where possible and during the World War other timber was not easy to acquire) this fender stool would have sat in front of one of the log fires at Balmanno. Lorimer described himself as: "an enthusiast in wood fires" and wrote to the Times in January 1929 with advice on this subject that was close to his heart "many people - even those who have spent either lives in the country - are curiously ignorant of how to get heat value out of wood........"
