Lot Essay

This type of cabinet was typical of the rococo furniture produced in mid 18th Century Germany. The combination of a commode surmounted by a top section comprising a door flanked by small drawers at each side is one of the many variations of model known as Aufsatzmöbel. The use of shaped fronts, the combination of convex and concave lines, was synonoumous with this style of furniture. Also typical is the fine strapwork and marquetry made up from a variety of different woods. (Robert Schmidt, Möbel, Berlin, 1929, pp.196-198
