The present lot has been technically examined by Drs J. Dik, of the Faculty of Chemistry of the University of Amsterdam, dating the picture to the late 16th/early 17th Century. His report, dated 24 April 1998, will be available to the buyer.

Lot Essay

The original, to be dated to circa 1516/17, is in the Pushkin Museum, Moscow, inv. no601 (see P. Johansen, "Meister Michel Sittow, Hofmaler der Königin Isabella von Kastilien und Burger von Reval", in Jahrbuch der Preussischen Kunstsammlungen, 1940, p.35, with ill.).
