During Ehret's short soujourn at the Jardin des Plantes in Paris, he was introduced to the work of the Peintre du roi, Claude Aubriet, and most probably saw the velins du roi. Ehret became aware of new techniques and his style developed with the introduction of vellum and bodycolour to his work.
Another version of Cassia tagera, dated by Calmann to before 1737, is illustrated in her book, op.cit., pl. 56.
