Lot Essay

The Hill Mynah is the ubiquitous talking cage bird. In the wild it is a forest species of the Himalayan foothills, western Ghats and eastern India, feeding on fruit and insects.
The Persian inscription describes the branch as that of the shrub Greivia asiatica and gives two suggestions for the species of bird: a starling famous for its talkativeness and the Hill Mynah.
