Uncut, half-titles, 16pp. letterpress tables. 362 hand-coloured engraved plates, each within a blue wash border and numbered in manuscript by the publisher. (Some general light browning to margins, repaired tear to half-title of vol.I, soiling or spotting to image area of plates 161, 162 and 175, 200 and 358, small hole affecting coloured border of plate 116.) Contemporary French red morocco-backed boards, uncut (lightly rubbed).

A fine unsophisticated copy of this series of plates, rare at auction. The unsigned plates are reissued from an earlier edition (each bears an engraved plate number), but are here renumbered by hand and arranged according to the Linnaean classification, as listed in the first of the two tables at the front of vol.I. Brunet I, 1379. (2)
