The field with a column of six charcoal-black panels with minor motifs around alternating ivory and brick-red hooked octagons each containing similar motifs around a bold radiating "Crivelli" flowerhead, framed with hooked motifs linking brick-red and ivory spandrels containing small lozenges, in a golden yellow border of polychrome hooked lozenges between brick-red linked S-motif and plain stripes, outer running dog stripe, braided ends, small repairs

Lot Essay

Another soumac woven with the same design is in the Metropolitan Museum of Art (McMullen, Joseph V.: Islamic Carpets, New York, 1965, no.51, pp.200-1), while a third was exhibited in the Barbican Centre, London, (Thompson, Jon.: Carpet Magic, London, 1983, p.18).
