The rose-pink field with dense brightly coloured flowering vine around a concentric lightly cusped plum red and ivory lozenge medallion containing similar motifs, a palmette pendant above and below, the large linked shaded light blue spandrels with floral sprays, in a shaded light blue border of tendrils issuing flowerheads and rosettes around ivory nasta'liq commissioning inscription cartouches between burnt orange floral meander and reciprocal skittle pattern stripes, very light staining, repiled, minimal moth damage at one end

Lot Essay

The cartouches all contain the same inscription, "made to the order of Mirza 'Ali Khan ?Sirlat Nizam". The most unusual and very strong colour scheme of this rug confirms that the whole piece was woven specifically for this client who obviously wanted his rugs to be noticed!
