Lot Essay

A very similar rug is in a private collection in Austria (Antique Oriental Carpets from Austrian Collections, Vienna, 1986, no.43). Both have the extremely rare blue field colour coupled with a yellow border. Both also include the variation within the border design between the hooked bars at the sides and the anthropomorphic forms at each end.
