This small rug with a classic rendering of a sought-after design is unusual in that the border vases all face inwards. Other classic examples with the more normal rendering of the field and a slightly harder wool than that which is found here are published: Herrmann, E.: Von Konya bis Kokand, Seltene Orientteppiche III, Munich, n.d., no.73, p.135; Sotheby's New York, 23 November 1985, lot 45; and in these Rooms 17 April 1987, lot 99.
