The ivory field with an overall design of scrolling tendrils issuing flowerheads and palmettes together with serrated leaves and rosettes, in a shaded rust-brown border of similar motifs, an inscription cartouche above, between sandy-yellow boteh vine, indigo flowering vine and minor barber-pole stripes, plain outer ivory stripe, slightly corroded green, otherwise excellent condition

Lot Essay

The inscription cartouche contains the workshop signature: Shirka'i Qabran Qarpet (sic).
Another Sarouk carpet with the same weaver's inscription cartouche was sold in our New York salerooms, 6 December 1988, lot 178.
