A French ormolu garniture
In the Louis XV Style, By Deniere, Paris, Third quarter 19th Century
Comprising a mantel clock and a pair of six-light candelabra: the clock surmounted by an urn with lion-mask handles and hung with laurel swags, above the shaped foliate-cast case, the circular gilt dial with blue and white enamel segmented hour sections, the twin-train movement with countwheel striking on a bell, stamped DENIERE/A PARIS, above musical trophies, on scrolled feet and shaped foliate-cast base; the candelabra of conforming design, with six foliate-cast branches terminating in a drip-pan, nozzle and sconce
The clock: 17¼ in. (43.7 cm.) wide; 23½ in. (59.7 cm.) high; 8¼ in. (27 cm.) deep
The candelabra: 25¼ in. (64 cm.) high

Lot Essay

The bronze workshop founded in 1813 by Jean-Franois Denière was located at 58, rue du Turenne, Paris. The firm produced articles of fine quality, continuing until 1903. Two other clocks by Denière were sold in these rooms, 15 May 1997, lots 128 and 177.
