3he rectangular top with a foliate-cast moulded edge, inset with an olive-green gilt-tooled leather writing surface, above the panelled frieze fitted with a central drawer above a deeper drawer flanking each side, the reverse with three apparent drawers, the sides each panelled and with a projecting central rectangular marquetry block, on square tapering legs each headed by a foliate clasp, above an acanthus collar, the corners of the leg inset with laurel, on acanthus-cast toupie feet, the underside twice stamped G. DURAND

Lot Essay

Specialising in the production of 18th century style furniture of the finest quality, Gervais-Maximilien-Eugène Durand (b. 1839) worked from a number of workshop locations in Paris during the last quarter of the 19th century. With his son Frédéric-Louis joining him in around 1890, the firm altered its name to Durand et Fils.
