Lot Essay

Alexander Mackenzie moved to Cornwall in 1951 and soon became a leading member of the Penwith Society. His turning forms of landscape, the texture of rock and lichen and the white light of Penwith are expressed with elegance and clarity.
(see T. Cross, Painting the Warmth of the Sun; St. Ives Artists 1939-1975, Penzance, 1984, p.174).
