The frosted gilt spring barrel movement with ruby cylinder escapement, three-armed balance with flat rim, ruby endstone, flat blued steel hairspring and bimetallic temperature curb, with early keyless winding system, the white enamel dial with Roman numerals, large subsidiary seconds, gold spade hands secured by a screw, in plain silver case with rounded fluted winder engaging in a bevel wheel in the movement, movement signed

Lot Essay

Thomas Prest was John Roger Arnold's foreman who patented a keyless winding system, No. 4501 in 1820. Watch No. 24 is the earliest recorded with Prest's winding but nevertheless watch No. 41 is a very early example.
