The frosted gilt chain fusee movement with finely pierced and engraved cock and foot secured by one screw, with the tail to the edge of the top-plate, other pierced and engraved furniture containing a mythical figure as indicator for the silvered regulation disc, pierced and faceted tulip pillars, the finely engraved gilt dial-plate with raised silvered chapter rings for the Roman hours, date and lunar calendar with a disc for aspects of the moon, sector for sunrise and sunset, sector for length of month combined with seasons of the year and a sector for the day of the week with its deity, with finely faceted blued steel hand, in plain silver case with split bezel, in contemporary silver and tortoiseshell outer case with silver pinwork, movement signed

Lot Essay

Franciscus Mercier is believed to have been a Parisian who emigrated along with others of his family under the Huguenot persecution. Franciscus came to London, others went to Amsterdam.
