Kossoff moved his studio from Bethnal Green to Willesden Junction in 1961 and moved again to Willesden Green in 1966. David Sylvester writes: "Out of the studio there are places, always in London, where Kossoff was born and has lived most of his life. 'The pictures', he says, 'are about specific places, changing seasons and special times. But mostly...they are about how the human figure, passing through the streets, transforms the space by its presence'" (R. Hughes, 'Leon Kossoff', London, 1995, p.15).
