With loop handle, decorated in iron-red, green and aubergine enamels and gilt on underglaze blue, with peonies issuing from rockwork above a band of lappets between two underglaze blue lines, slight rubbing to enamels, small frits

Tankards of various forms were much in demand and were regularly ordered by the Dutch East India Trade, starting in 1663. Models were sent from Europe in particular stoneware examples from Germany.
