A pair of Imari jar and covers
Late 17th Century
Decorated in various coloured enamels and gilt on underglaze blue with three shaped panels depicting karashishi playing and butterflies among peonies, two ho-o birds perched on a branch of peonies with another spreading its wings in flight and a peacock in flight reaching to another perched on a flowering branch surrounded by foliage, elaborate cords knotted around the necks, falling between the panels and ending with tassels, the covers similarly decorated with knop finials modelled as an eagle perched on a flowering stump, some restoration to covers and vases
