Lot Essay

The watercolour shows the south walk of the cloisters, with the entrance to the chapter house, through the Norman arch to the left. Henry VIII made the chapel of Cardinal Wolsey's college a cathedral in 1546; the chapter house is used for convocations of the cathedral clergy and the discussion of diocesan business.
